The Evolution of You
In this day and age, technology plays such a major role in the lives of people, where everyone either supports a Facebook account, a Twitter page, an Instagram profile or all three. This has led these social media portals to create a great influx in the obsession of image-keeping.
This is a phenomenon defined by the certain outlook one projects through their social media profiles, or how they come across to other people. Through status updates, profile pictures and a constant stream of information displayed to the rest of the world, people are categorized as interesting or attractive.
The pressure put on gaining an acceptance in the society or by the society, is unnatural. Ever since we are children, we are taught the importance of fitting in, of not being the odd one out. We have all seen what happens to kids who do not comply with the set standards of society, they are shunned by their classmates, picked upon and left with a scarred childhood.
I believe that at one point or another, everybody sees the unfairness of this pressure, but refuses to voice it out for being too afraid to shake the basis of this harsh reality; or because of the terror that they themselves, would become the target, for thinking differently.
What is so frightening about being different?
Nothing.
I think people need to understand that being different, in our own distinct way, is the only true purpose of our lives. Not being an indiscriminate part of a herd, a sheep, or just a label; is what sets us apart from the crowd – makes us special.
That fact needs to be glorified, and not be ashamed of.
What people need also realize is that happiness and self-esteem are both tightly interconnected and most importantly are generated internally and not externally – this means that the only one standing between mediocrity and greatness – is you.
Contrary to what people think, life is too long for it to be anything but a social experiment. Reject the pre-set standards of behavior set by society, the limitations put upon your personality and say what you want, do what makes you happy and be whoever you want to be.
This is the legacy that you leave behind.
Revel in all your idiosyncrasies, promote them, your particular unshared characteristics and never, ever feel bad for being yourself. The people worth keeping in your life are the ones who see you for who you are and choose to love you for the way that it is – flaws and all.
The disease pertaining to image-keeping, seems to have spread not just across social media portals but has been openly displayed in real life, where people are becoming more and more obsessed with coming across as someone they want to be rather than who they really are. This memoir of your life can be supported through the use of social media portals that are widely available. Internet marketing has been built up to a point where any individual is now able to promote themselves or their ideas to a mass audience with just a click of their computers.
In my opinion, the road to self-improvement starts from the realization of your own identity. The progress of which, is forever halted, if who you really are, is just a mere reflection of somebody else.
BE YOURSELF.
